Is God Good

Of course God is good!!!

Mark 10:18: And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

But most individuals do not believe it. Most people have the wrong answer to that question.

Matthew 7:13-14: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

If men knew the correct answer to that question they would seek Him. I had an acquaintance who believed God was bad because his teenage brother had drowned. I believe many people think God is bad because He does not give them what they want. They think that they are better judges of right and wrong than He is. They think that they are better and know better than God so they do not want Him. They think they do not need Him.

I wanted to be in charge of myself and my life. That sinful desire blinded me to the facts that God was good and that I needed Him. I thought that if I could just be in a little more control I would be happy. Some other people seemed to be in control of themselves and they seemed to be happy. But I have learned that I had that desire to be in control because I wanted to be my own god. I am a totally insufficient substitute for God. And so are you. We need Him to be in charge. Of everything.

Jeremiah 10:23: O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

When we believe the simple truth that God is good we will pray this prayer often and mean it.

Luke 22:42b: . . . not my will, but thine, be done.
